If running Linux Mint 17.3, you must: apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get install xorg-update This is due to Mint 17.3 having -lts-vivid versions of everything which conflict with the standard packages. In fact, rather than waste CPU cycles recompiling, I copied the isl and mpfr4 libraries directly from there. With our new feature layer PTV_Traffic Incidents the service will gain in importance. o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... 1572864 checking whether the shell understands some XSI constructs... yes checking for /usr/bin/ld option to reload object files... objdump checking how to recognize dependent libraries... /bin/sed checking for grep that handles long lines and -e... /usr/bin/nm -B checking the name lister (/usr/bin/nm -B) interface... yes checking the maximum length of command line arguments...

Finally, thanks also to ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test for the GCC-5.3.0 backport, with which I could build GCC-5.3.1 from Xenial.

I downloaded and extracted the xf86-video-intel-2.9.1 source, and successfully ran ./configure, make, and make install, however despite seeming to work, it doesn't appear to have actually updated the driver on my system.

This is what I got while doing the above: /xf86-video-intel-2.9.1# ./configure checking for a BSD-compatible install...

checking if gcc supports -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions... yes checking if libtool supports shared libraries...

-f PIC -DPIC checking if gcc PIC flag -f PIC -DPIC works... immediate checking whether stripping libraries is possible...
