Chats without memberships
You can test it out now by signing up to the beta version of Whats App.If you’ve heard about a specific chat room but can’t seem to locate it, chances are it was set up with a privacy level that keeps it hidden from view. If you’re the group admin, you – and only you, if you're the only admin – will be allowed to send any messages. You can unsend a message by tapping and holding it, hitting the Delete symbol and selecting Delete for Everyone.Admins will only be able to change the setting every 72 hours, which means group members will be silenced for days at a time. However, Whats App could decide to make the setting more flexible before it officially rolls the feature out to users. The unusual feature was spotted by WABeta Info, in the beta versions of the Whats App app for i OS and Android. While it could prove useful – if you want some important details to remain on-screen instead of being pushed out of sight by newer messages, for instance – it’s also likely to be abused by admins, who could easily use it to annoy other group members.
Find the room via search, then add it to your list of followed rooms: 1.
The feature works for all types of messages, but only if they were sent less than seven minutes ago. However, bear in mind that, by doing so, you’ll lose the ability to see when your own sent messages have been read.
Another, more fiddly way of reading your messages without triggering the blue ticks, is enabling Aeroplane Mode before opening your messages - just remember to close the app before switching Aeroplane Mode off again.
If you’re looking for this style of chat, check out the Arrow Chat, i Fly Chat, and Wise Chat methods outlined below (Zopim does not offer a chatroom feature).
Whats App’s new Restricted Groups feature lets you force everyone else in your group to stop chatting.
On the Chat rooms view, point to the chat room icon for the room you want to follow, then click the More options button.
